Understanding Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity
Getting a diagnosis of celiac disease or gluten sensitivity (collectively known as gluten-related disorders) can be overwhelming. We're here to help! Learn more about gluten-related disorders by visiting the pages outline below.
Getting Started on the Gluten-Free Diet
The gluten-free diet is the only current treatment available for celiac disease, although potential pharmaceutical treatments are in the works. It might seem like there are no foods you can eat safely right now, but in time, you'll see that there's a whole wealth of delicious gluten-free food you can eat.
Download NFCA's Getting Started: A Guide to Celiac Disease and the Gluten-Free Diet for a comprehensive look at the gluten-free diet, foods you can and cannot eat, labeling reading instructions and so much more.
Special thanks to Arrowhead Mills for making the Getting Started Guide possible!
Celiac Disease in Families
Celiac disease is a genetic autoimmune disease, so your family members have an increased risk of developing the condition themselves. All first degree (children, parents, siblings) and second degree (aunts, uncles, grandparents) relatives need to be tested for celiac disease, even if they have no symptoms at all.
Learn more about celiac disease in families through NFCA's Family Talk web section.
