Undiagnosed, celiac disease can be a debilitating illness that leads to many other serious disorders and increases a person’s risk of early death by four times. As a nonprofit organization, we see others in the field cutting programs, canceling events and laying off staff. Our own organization has seen a significant decrease in sponsorships and donations. However, if we sit on our hands, two million people will suffer needlessly in pain and chronic illness, costing our healthcare system over $10 billion per year in unnecessary testing and treatment. This expense is passed on to all of us and affects small businesses and multinational corporations alike.
