NYC Gluten-Free Cooking Spree a HUGE Success!!!!
Celebrity chefs and doctors took over the kitchens at Institute for Culinary Education...Brett Reichler of BR Guest and Robert Mangione of St. John's University School of Pharmacy were the big winners!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The Gluten-Free Cooking Spree held in New York City this past Friday, March 2nd   was a huge sold-out success with over 200 attendees.

Everyone at the party had a fabulous time at ICE (Institute of Culinary Education) watching the chef/doctor teams prepare gluten-free delights.  Attendees enjoyed gluten-free pasta, pizza, calamari, eggplant rollatini, chicken nuggets, meatballs, sushi, and an incredible spread of desserts that included brownies, cookies and scones.

A huge thank you to Bob's RedMill for all of their support and for making sure that each chef/doctor team had the right amount of flour for their recipes.

And, five gold stars to GlutenFree Passport (Kim Koeller and Robert La France) for their outstanding work in insuring that all of the food was gluten-free, assisting with recipe development, and donating their fabulous and award-winning  Let's Eat Out! series of informative books on gluten-free dining to the chef/doctor teams.

The winning team was Brett Reichler of BR Guest and Dr. Robert Mangione of St. John's University School of Pharmacy. Together, they made Tortilla Crusted Free-Range Chicken. To check out their recipe as well as the recipes of the other teams, click here.

CNN Newsroom Anchor Heidi Collins, the official spokesperson for NFCA, hosted the event and thoroughly convinced the crowd that gluten-free food can be delicious!! She told everyone her personal story of being diagnosed with celiac disease and spoke about being a mother of a child with celiac disease. Heidi's five-year-old son Riley was one of the judges for the event and did a fantastic job convincing the other judges that the Tortilla Crusted Chicken was the best dish of the evening!!

The other judges were Angela Moore of Food and Wine Magazine and Dr. Peter Green from the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.

The participating chefs included: BR Guest Corporate Executive Chef Brett Reichler, Chef Ralph Pagano Iron Chef and Hell’s Kitchen, Chef Jehangir Mehta-Partistry & Graffiti, Chef Julian Medina, Chef Aarón Sanchez—Centrico & Paladar, Chef Carrie Levin—Good Enough to Eat, and Chef Patricia Williams—District Restaurant.

The participating doctors included: Dr. Peter Green as a judge from Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Dr. Suzanne Loiselle-Mt. Sinai Hospital. Dr. Michael Blechman-Beth Israel Medical Center, Dr. Marc Wager-Sound Shore Medical Center, Dr. Michael Contillo-Lawrence Hospital, Dr. Zoovia Hamid-Sound Shore Medical Center, Dr. Rafael Soltren-Phelps Memorial Hospital, Dr. Robert Mangione-St. Johns University, and Maureen Higgens, R.N.—Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

And of course, there was Gluten-Free beer, Redbridge, from Anheuser-Busch. Here's a photo of Kristi the brewmaster with some of NFCA's volunteers and supporters.
