Reproductive Health Stories Needed

We need your help. We need your story!

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) is working on a program related to reproductive health, and we want to hear your personal stories. Whether you have suffered miscarriages, stillbirths, or bearing children with low birth weights, we want to hear from you.  If you have celiac disease, began a gluten-free diet and delivered a healthy baby boy or girl, tell us about it. Together, we can tell our stories to raise awareness about the debilitating effect that celiac disease has on reproductive health and put an end to these family tragedies.

As a mother who battled the heart-wrenching effects of celiac disease on fertility before finally giving birth to a daughter who weighed only three pounds, I’ll be the first person to tell you about the importance of celiac awareness. Had it not taken me 23 physicians, several miscarriages and a full term stillbirth to discover that all I had to do was stop eating gluten, I would not have had to endure this heartbreak.

The answer was so simple. Why didn’t my small army of doctors know to test for it? With almost 3 million celiacs among us and a staggering 20 to 50 percent of them facing infertility issues, imagine how many are trying to have children, can’t and don’t know why.

But, we can heal ourselves and we can help others heal.

To contribute, email your stories to emily@CeliacCentral.org. NFCA is listening!
