APPETITE FOR AWARENESS A HUGE SUCCESS

True or False: Once you test positive for celiac disease, you do not need follow-up care from a physician??

Answer: FALSE

On Friday October 13, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness held its third annual Appetite for Awareness event, raising more than $170,000 for celiac disease awareness efforts.

This year, MythBusters took center stage and helped the more than 260 people that attended the event turn common myths about celiac into hard facts.

Also in attendance were a variety of superheroes, all of whom shared a little bit of celiac wisdom.

Bruce Gordon of Fox 29News hosted the event and helped the Foundation honor Dr. Anthony J. DiMarino Jr. for being a true Advocate for Awareness for celiac disease. Dr. DiMarino Jr. is the William Rorer Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Food and beverages were generously provided by Bliss Restaurant, Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop, Ramapo Valley Brewery and Whole Foods Market Gluten-Free Bakehouse. Event planning was provided by Culinary Concepts.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported Appetite for Awareness. What a fabulous evening!
