Gluten Free Quick Breakfast Ideas for School Mornings!

Make sure that your children (and you) get a good start to the day!

Toast, English Muffins & Tortillas
Gluten-free varieties of bread are a part of breakfast in many households. Here are a
few simple ideas using this staple.

  • Spread with peanut or other nut butters and top with banana slices
  • Spread with cream cheese and natural fruit jam
  • Melt cheese (cow, goat or dairy-free) over top
  • Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon
  • Top with your favorite protein source. (See below for ideas.)

Protein
Including protein may help you and your family get a good start on the day. Serve on
their own or, better yet, alongside fruit. You may wish to cook some of these ahead of
time (on the weekend maybe) and then reheat for a quick breakfast.

  • Gluten free bacon: pork, turkey or meat-free versions
  • Gluten Free sausage: pork, turkey or meat-free versions
  • Eggs: scrambled and hard-boiled are good bets
  • Scrambled tofu
  • Beans: try refried beans on a gluten free tortilla topped with cheese

Yogurt
Whether you choose cow, goat or dairy-free yogurt, this is a great way to add
protein and calcium to your morning. Try these yummy yogurt variations:

  • Mix with a gluten free granola or dry cereal
  • Stir into chopped, fresh fruit and sprinkle with sliced almonds
  • Top with raisins, nuts and honey

Dry Cereals
The varieties are nearly endless for gluten free packaged cereal, but sometimes
a bowl of cereal and milk might seem a little dull. Dress up your kid's bowl with
their favorite fresh, dried or frozen fruit. Also, while cow milk is a favorite of many,
there are plenty of other options, such as, goat, soy, rice or almond milk, and you
can also moisten your cereal with apple juice for a delicious change of pace. Mixing
 with yogurt is great, too.

Hot Cereals
Several gluten free hot cereals are quick to prepare and others can be cooked ahead
of time and simply reheated on school mornings. You are sure to find something to
suit your family's tastes. Top with your choice of dried, fresh or frozen fruit; maple syrup
or honey; nuts; and cow, goat, soy, rice or almond milk.

Packaged and Frozen Options
Knowing that getting breakfast on the table can be challenging, there are many prepared
products on the market to help.

  • Gluten Free Frozen Waffles
  • Gluten Free Cereal bars
  • Or, prepare Gluten Free Pancakes on the weekend and freeze them yourself!

We are so excited about Don Poncho's Gluten Free Tortillas! These
tortillas are exactly like traditional flour tortillas.  They can be
found at the  www.glutenfreemall.com

These work really well for childrens' lunches... serve up a turkey wrap,
or ham and cheese wrap, or a bean and rice wrap!

The following is a list of U.S. Wrigley products that remain free of any wheat, oat, rye
 or barley gluten:

Wrigley's Spearmint gum, Freedent gum, Doublemint gum, Extra gum, Big Red gum,

If your sensitivity extends to other types of gluten, several of our brands contain corn
syrup, which may have trace amounts of corn gluten in it.  The amount of gluten in
one stick is less than 0.2 milligrams, but if you are extremely sensitive, you may want
to consult with your physician before chewing our brands

Additionally, no packaging material directly next to our product contains gluten sources.
There may be instances when starches are used on the label around each individual stick
of gum, but these starches are produced from corn or potatoes, not from wheat, rye,
barley, oats, millet or buckwheat.

We hope this information has been helpful and thanks again for contacting the Wrigley
Company.

"Best pizza ever", says Kids Corner Jocelyn Robbins.  Here are the details.

"Get Gluten Free Pantry French Bread and Pizza Mix and follow the directions right on the
bag.  I find it extremely easy to make.  I use white corn meal or white rice flour to flour
the stone and dough before I roll it out.  I recommend Pampered Chef stoneware.  This
mix makes me two pizzas...I use a large round stone and a rectangular stone.  I bake one
pizza with Ragu Pizza Sauce and mozzarella cheese (any toppings you wish).  Then I bake
the other dough plain without any toppings.  I let this one cool and I cut it into rectangular
sized pieces and freeze.  Later, when I need a quick pizza for a birthday party, I take out
one "Elio sized" pizza crust, microwave it for 30-40 seconds, top it, and bake for about 5-8
minutes.

Carolyn Evans of the Maryland Chapter of CSA/USA warns about soy bars.

At a recent meeting, "we gave out soy protein bars from Revivals Soy that say no wheat
or gluten on the label.  However, reading the ingredient list there is MALT listed."  This has
caused some problems for some celiac sufferers.  She cautions everyone to continue to
read labels carefully!
