Could it be true that being gluten-free could actually in fact improve some tennis stars game?  On the heels of Novak Djokovic’s public support for the gluten-free diet, fellow ATP tour member Sabine Lisicki has revealed that she too is gluten intolerant.gf tennis

Last week, Lisicki dropped out of the 2nd round of the French open, carried off on a stretcher despite being on the verge of beating Vera Zvonareva.  Following the match, the 21-year-old German revealed that her relatively recent diagnosis was to blame.  She stated, “I am sad that my body let me down. Doctors recently discovered that I am intolerant to gluten – meaning I can’t eat e.g. one of my biggest energy sources.”

Like Djokovic, Lisicki is faced with the challenge of fueling her body with gluten-free substitutes in an effort to sustain energy when it comes to her matches, and day-to-day life.

"My body needs to adjust to the big change and needs some time. It is good that we found out and it will only make life better in the long run," Lisicki admitted.
