College Quarterback Rebounds From Celiac

During a press conference held this week, Clint Trickett, quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles football team, announced he had celiac disease.

According to Fox Sports Florida:

“He said earlier this summer that he was consuming 4,500 calories a day in an effort to add pounds to his 6-foot-2 frame.

Trickett, who said in the spring that he weighed 165 but is listed at 180 by FSU, was often eating peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches but not gaining weight.

‘So I'm like, 'Why am I not gaining any weight?’ Trickett said. ‘I had some blood work done, I had a biopsy, and they said that, 'You have celiac disease.' And it started making sense.’”

Trickett said he began to notice health improvements within one month of going gluten-free and has been gaining about a pound or two a week.

“He's avoiding the sandwich shops and opting for the school cafeteria or restaurants that serve rice, potatoes and beans (he can also eat most meats).

‘You just have to stay away from any kind of breaded food,’ Trickett said.”

Trickett made his college football debut last Saturday, playing valiantly despite FSU’s loss to the Clemson Tigers. The redshirt freshman is expected to start again this weekend in place of the injured starting quarterback, EJ Manuel.
