Experts share the possible reasons behind the increase in celiac disease prevalence.

While experts know much about celiac disease and the treatment for it (a lifelong gluten-free diet), some details are still unknown – such as the reason the autoimmune disease has quadrupled in the last 50 years.

On February 23, 2013, the New York Times ran the article, “Who Has the Guts for Gluten?” which featured National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) Scientific/Medical Advisory Council Member Dr. Alessio Fasano of the Center for Celiac Research in Boston, Massachusetts, among other researchers.

Dr. Fasano and other featured experts explained fascinating new research into the potential causes of celiac disease, including new information on how gut bacteria may play a role in celiac disease.
