Awareness All-Stars

Awareness All-Stars Fundraiser: FAQs

You or your parents probably have some questions about being an Awareness All-Star. Here are some answers that may help you:

Why Me?

We’ve talked to lots of kids, and we learned one thing: You all want to help! This is one way you can make a real difference for other kids who are still eating gluten and getting sick. You can also help lots of kids who just got diagnosed and are scared about their new gluten-free diet.

These letters will help raise money for NFCA, which will go toward educating other kids, their doctors, and chefs about celiac disease and why 100% gluten-free food is so important. The money raised will also help NFCA create new resources and make Kids Central bigger and better.

Do I Have to Create a Fundraising Page?

Yes. For this Awareness All-Stars fundraiser, we require that all participating kids create a fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/celiacawareness/allstars2012. This is an easy way to share your story and send emails to family members and friends to let them know about your fundraiser. Plus, you’ll be able to see who donated to your page, so you can thank them for helping you become an Awareness MVP!

I Clicked “Start Fundraising” and It’s Asking Me to Register. Why?

The Awareness All-Stars fundraiser isn’t an event like a walk or a food fair, but you still have to sign up as if it were an event. There’s no cost to register – all you have to do is answer a few questions and then you’ll be able to create your fundraising page! In other words, there’s no “event” – it’s just a big fundraiser online!

I Need Help Starting My Fundraising Page. What Should I Do?

If you need help getting started on FirstGiving, take a look at these step by step instructions. If you still need help, ask your parents to e-mail or call Alicia at [email protected] or 215-325-1306 ext. 103.

Can I Tell My Support Group About This?

Please do! In fact, you can turn your next support group meeting into an Awareness All-Stars letter writing day! Invite other kids to create their own Awareness All-Stars fundraising pages before your meeting. Then, spend the meeting writing letters or emails for the fundraiser. Bring some gluten-free snacks to make it even more fun!

Can My Friends Who Aren’t Gluten-Free Help Me Fundraise?

Yes! Invite your brothers and sisters to write letters about what it means to have a happy and healthy gluten-free sibling. Make sure they include a link to your fundraising page. That way, by working together you can raise even more for NFCA!
