Welcome to Kids Central!
The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) team is thrilled to have you here. Whether you're wondering if your child may have celiac disease or you're looking for some help to keep you and your gluten-free kid on the right track, this is the place to be.
To make you feel more at home, we invited NFCA Medical Advisory Board Member and celiac expert Dr. Ritu Verma to write a little welcome note to all of our Kids Central visitors. Here's what she had to say:
Dear Parents, Family and Friends:
Take a deep breath. Kids Central is here!
As a pediatric gastroenterologist, I’ve seen the gamut of cases in the exam room. There have been middle schoolers violently ill from untreated celiac, and toddlers who barely showed symptoms. I’ve seen dramatic improvements once they went gluten-free, and the stumbles it takes to get there.
I’ve seen this because I’m not only a doctor, I’m also a mother. A mother with celiac kids. While my children are older now, I’ve gone through what each of you do on a daily basis. What I’ve learned: Support is crucial, knowledge is key, and acceptance is a virtue. You can’t anticipate or control every situation your child will be in, so the best defense is to educate yourself, your child and those around you.
And that’s exactly what Kids Central is all about.
