Meet Evey Bell

Evey is 8 years old and has celiac disease and type 1 diabetes.

Meet Evey! She was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 3, but likes to go to parties and play with friends just like every other kid. She also loves eating at her favorite gluten-free restaurants. Learn more about her below!

What were some of your symptoms of celiac disease?

My mom took me to the GI doctor because she thought I had acid reflux. The doctor said she thought I had celiac disease.  The doctor tested both me and my mom, and we both have it!

How do you handle having to be gluten-free in school?

I am homeschooled so I don't have a problem in school. If I go to a birthday party or out to eat, my mom always calls ahead and asks if they have any gluten-free foods. If not, we pack our own. I do go to a co-op and I just pack my own lunch.

Do you play any sports? What’s your favorite energy food?

I love to dance!  During dance class, I like to eat peanut butter bars that are gluten-free.

How do you tell your friends about your celiac disease?

I just tell them I can't some of the things they eat like pizza. I have my own pizza, and it is good!

If you could wish for one thing about celiac disease, what would it be and why?

That eating gluten-free would be just as easy as eating "regular" food.
