I am 20 years old, and two days before my last birthday, I found out I have celiac disease. For about a decade, I suffered with digestive problems, seizures, migraines, bone pain and many more little annoying pains and problems. I had never heard about celiac before, and gave up trying to find an answer to my problems.
I had seen many neurologists and had all the expensive high tech tests. They all said I was completely normal and healthy. What was my problem? I was so frustrated. I cut out lactose, coffee, meat, processed foods, candy, mostly everything and was still suffering badly.
About 4 weeks before my diagnosis, the symptoms got even worse. I had a really bad seizure at my sister’s graduation party, and every day I spent hours curled up in the bathroom crying from pain. I finally decided to see a gastroenterologist for my digestive problems. She immediately said “celiac” and ordered a endoscopy. I cut gluten out of my diet, and I've been doing 100% better. For around 10 years I suffered immense pain, and also humiliation (It’s not cool to black out in the bathroom at a 4th grade sleepover), thinking I was just a weak person.
